the reason i joined ICG was because i realised how Amazing it was to be part of YOG ADVENTURE TEAM RP last year. most of the people were culturally inclined. And just like YOG, ICG is a really talented group of people.

and so, i am proud to present to you our latest event, im not in the video cos i handle all the $ for this event. (maybe next video)

In my line of work, I come across many people.

Some who are extremely wealthy... some who belong to the middle class... and many who belong to the lower class.

Can you guess whom I like assisting the most?

Middle class?? No

Upper-class ... sometimes...

Lower class... ahh, now those are people who are extremely polite!

Now come to think of it, in terms of being polite, being civil, should it not be that the upper-class be most civil and polite, and in that order the lower class the least polite?

Let me give you an example of 3 people.

When a Philipino, or a PR calls in, they might start by saying, "thank you for picking up my call, I have been facing a technical problem, will you be so kind to help me solve it?"

Does that not make you feel like immediately helping them!?!?!

When a middle class Singaporean calls in "my internet cannot work! Your company got problem ah!" lol funny right! But no, its not. When you are going through hundreds of technical charts and information everyday, a customer like this is dreaded! You don’t really put in your effort, of go the extra mile to get the thing done. And if you do go the extra mile, it’s because you’re afraid that they will want to speak to your manager.

When an upper class person calls "hi there! Im facing a technical problem is there anything I can provide you for you to help me out" - not so bad yea.

Can you see the difference in the three classes?

Now I put to you, that the majority of upper class and lower class are not Singaporeans. I know this for a fact.

So the question is where did we go wrong? Why are we thought that if we make noise, if we are rude, if we complain, we will be served better?

And the most unfortunate thing is that I USE TO BE LIKE THAT!!!!!

Is this the Singapore mentality? Or is it what our parents have thought us? Or did something go wrong in our education?

Whatever the reason, I hope that those who read this blog will know that speaking nicely, will make a lot of difference. And at the end of the day, it is your fellow Singaporean, you neighbor, your friend who will be serving you either at MacDonald’s or when you call into a call center. So even if you’re busy, and there is a telemarketer, on the phone which is annoying you, be polite, tell them nicely that you are busy or are not interested. Remember, they are not calling you to irritate you; they are trying to make a living so that they can feed their families, and because Allah has not given them the same wealth he has given you, that person has no choice but to call you and hope he makes some money.

Just think about it.

during the last few weeks, i have been arguing with individuals on how the financial crisis is actually an over blown, over rated thing ... but i think after reading a lot about it in news papers, and reading some blogs, i know that i am wrong. if something does not directly affect me, it does not mean that its not really there.

Firing a staff is never ever easy to do. I have only ever fired 2 people in my working life so far. The first one, being the first one, I didn't handle well at all. The second one I left it to my superiors, because the case involved theft.Because I messed up the first one, the whole department turned against me. Before, they had been more than kind to me, leaving me little things on my table, like some food, for me to enjoy. I also always joined them for lunch, where lunch was in the factory as many did not want to venture the long distance to the nearest foodstall. So to all intents and purposes, I had a good thing going with my department. Until my superior called me in and told me about the bad times and that I should 'release' one staff from my department. Who it was going to be he left up to me to decide. Yeah, he wasn't going to hold the blood soaked knife, I had been volunteered to do it.The choice was a difficult one since all of them had been as hardworking as the other. Some were absolutely essential as they operated key systems. Thinking back, I couldn't work out rationally who should go. It was entirely arbitrary, really. There wasn't an issue about favouritism. Call it a roll of the dice if you would. One went. She wasn't shown the door immediately. She was informed, and during the notice period, I notice knife-edged stares everyday I showed up for work. It was uncomfortable, to say the least.In restrospect, I should have protected my staff more. And even if a staff had to be fired, I should have shown more concern about the staff's future plans. And I should have talked to the rest of the department to seek their understanding and not kept quiet about it all. It was the worst way to release a staff, particularly one who has worked there for more than 10 years.Needless to say, I never ate with them anymore. I left voluntarily not long after. But this incident still haunts me to this day. I hope that people do not repeat my mistakes. In this retrenchment 'season', let the one in charge show greater compassion and sensitivity. It's somebody's life, livelihood and family we are talking about.

its always easy to say. and in this case its easy to show others. so i told myself some time back to show my thoughts in my actions. and thus for lunch tomorrow i shall try to only have only brown rice. to remember that there are those who are less fortunate then me. and for those who do not know, in Islam, one of the reason we fast during Ramzan, is to remember how the poor feel when they have no food.

ok, it started off like any other lunch. Walked from my office to Fusionpolis, which is a science and IT hub, which is in collaboration with NTU and Astar. Now I went for lunch, made friends with this Ukrainian who was telling me about how his father educated him about the world by putting a 2 by 3 meter SUPER huge map in his room, and how he could tell you any country in world by just looking at its shape!

After lunch, I was really in the mood for some CHENDOL! So decided to buy some. And guess what! The president of my medical electronics group in RP is standing behind me! He gives me a nudge in the shoulder and we looked at each other and said at the exact same time “ WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!” hahaha

And he told me how he was doing his FYP + Internship at Fusionpolis ! I was like WHAT!!! that means u don’t have to do FYP! And he was like, yea, something like that.. jus trying to act humble lol. And then we started talking about the other members, and he told me that the member who was from my class in RP. Is doing her Internship in NTU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT department, and will be spending her entire year 3 in BOSTON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for a transfer program!

Whoever said RP sucked, better take back your words! And Ebrahim, how I wished u came to RP, you wld have rocked the school! Unfortunately many will never get the opportunities in TP or other Polys compared to what you guys would have been able to do in RP.

Ok, so right about now, you must be telling yourself, whats the big deal! He met a Ukrainian, and found out RP has some awesome stuff … that’s all…

What happened next! I was walking back to work and was at the traffic light junction when all of a sudden sirens go off! And a lot of them! And before you know it there are motorcycles coming down the road at full speed and beating the RED light at the junction.

A lorry SLAMS on his breaks and turns side ways to avoid crashing into the Fire Fighter motorcycle!

But the guy on the motorcycle is very confident, he know exactly where to stop in order to prevent any accident.

As the entire traffic comes to a sudden halt, more motorcycle zoom by across the junction!

And before you know it! The big guns are arriving! The super huge FIRE TRUCKS !! blasting the siren as they go by!

Now they are all headed for the Singapore Power house! The power house has huge, thick metal gates, and is so secured that it has a traffic light just to enter that place.

A police man runs out of the gate as it opens, to guid the fire motorcycles and trucks into the building!

But as the main fire truck arrives, it overshoots the main gate and completely bypasses the building without even realizing that they have bypassed the building.

I go up to the polise man and told him “they overshoot !”

Police: “yea, I waas waiving to them, but did not see me!!” said in a phenting voice, and a panic stricken face.

He moved back forth, not knowing whether to chase the fire truck, or to guard the now vulnerable entrance to the building.

Me: “is there a fire?”

Police: “yea, there is a lot of black smoke coming out! But we cannot locate the fire!”

Me: “they are headed towards my office, ill try to catch them, and tell them where you are located”

Police: “thanks a lot”

As I head towards my office, I took the long root, as I know that’s the one the fire engine must have taken.

As I walk briskly, I was hoping that the fire engine does not get stuck at my office lane, as it’s a one way road, and is too small for them to take a U-turn.

Before I know it, they are headed in the opposite direction, towards me, at a very slow speed, and the sirens off, clearly showing that they were lost.

I started waiving my hands, I could see through their windshield, that the officer had spotted me, and was indicating to the driver to head towards me.

As the truck came to a standstill with me by its side. A head poped out, with an expression on his face, almost knowing like I was going to guid them towards the fire.

I told them that they had over shot, and as they headed back in the right direction he would see a large blue metal gate. That is the place!

Suddenly a few more heads poped out from the other parallel windows, and they started shouting thanks! thanks!

i hurried up my office, to tell me collegues that the power house was on fire. one of them gave me an evil smile, saying that if it is on fire, and the power goes out. the computer will be out! and that meansssssssssssss

WE CAN ALL GO HOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

YOG - A (Youth Olympic Games Adventure)

for those who dont know, im part of Youth Olympic Games Adventure group, which is a group of students from RP who aim to promote the fairly new YOG to the youth in Europe. reason being that much of Europe is still unaware of the YOG. thus our team has been working day and night to come up with plans, proposals and a video to show that it is the RIGHT choice to sponser us to go to Europe to promote YOG!

this video is an introduction to many of the people i have been working with during the holidays. they are just a whole bunch of fun peps ! the video is a demo of how this group came about and how our booth will look like in Europe!

as you will see, they are a bunch of really creative and artistic people. and personally iv never worked with this kind of people, thus iv learned sooooooooo much. so much about finding your creative side, having informal meetings. expressing your ideas for videos and art and what not. its different from my previous Poly-Forum and Ministers Forum groups ! AND I LOVE IT !

A Prayer

i have been working a lot these days. seldom get the time to blog. but when i came across this prayer. i realised that it had everything that a prayer would ever need. just thought of sharing it with you guys.

Dear Allah, I thank You for this day,

I thank You for my being able to see

In 2008, I experienced a miracle, the kindness of people who I did not know, and the power of dua.

I don’t need to say much about the event, it was the day I lost my laptop. Today, once again, I thank everyone who was there in my time of need. You are all remembered in my dua.

I always say "it does not feel like the end of the year, or the new year until poly is over"

well guys, for second time, an entire poly year is over.

although there are many memories, the once i tend to remember the mast during this time of the year are the great friends i made and use to spend entire days hanging out with in previous semesters.

i also remember my first class, in year one semester one! that was the best class i ever had!

its times like these i remember Ain, Esther, Melvin, SHAWN !! Suren, Thumb, Felicia, Shereen, Bing Bing, Ryan, Germane and our class sweetheart wan ling ! not forgetting all the other guys i use to have so much fun with!

we use to torture the faci on the last day, until one almost started crying! and then there was DRAMA day, when i guy came into class and slapped a girl so hard, u could see all 5 fingers imprinted on her face! fun time’s man ... fun times ...

oh yea! and the time we spent at the beach, telling ghost stories, and sharing abt our lives until the wee hours of the morning outside mac at east cost ... ill never forget man .. never!

oh wait ! i forgot NICOLE ! dear Nicole, i still remember how you called me from china! she lost everything at the airport! her bag, passport and $2000 !!! or was it $1500 ... it was big $$ anyways.... but not to worry folks, she is very ... ehm ehm ... haha RICH !

Today, for the first time in history, a black president will be taking his pledge to the chair of the President of the United States of America.

What does it mean to me? It means that we are one more step closer to achieving absolutely anything on this planet!

It means when I tell myself this is impossible, im doing nothing but lying to my own self.

It means new hope for people all around the world who have suffered because of one mans actions.

It is a symbol of maturity of the human race.

It is to tell you TODAY is the 21^st century! And if you are not living with the 21^st century political ideals, it’s about time you woke up!

It is reality check for all those who sit on their asses saying that “everyone is putting on a show, and the fact is, colour, religion and money are the only things that will push you up in life”

It is the dawn of a new era.

Out of the Ordinary

Today, at 6 pm I received a call. The number that flashed was a residential one, but it was not registered to anyone in my address book.

So I picked up the phone, thinking it must be someone calling for a survey or a promotion or something. And the voice said “hi hozefa, this is husena” (hope I spelled ur name right)

In my mind I was like “oh husena … OH WAIT HUSENA !!! did someone die or something! Or maybe she is planning a surprise party for Maryam and Zahra … but wait, isn’t their birthday long over!

You see, the reason why my mind was thinking in such an unusually frantic manner was because this is the first time I received a call from her, and plus, we are related, so that explains the someone died part HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

U don’t have to tell me, yea I know its LAME to the MAX! lol

Anyways, she called to ask me for my house address. I think her dad or mom might be coming for a daris at my place…

Now u see, Husena falls under those people in my life whom I know, but don’t really know. So getting a call from her, falls under the Out of the Ordinary things that happen in my day(which you should have figured out by now)

Anyways, Husena, if by any chance your reading this post… do feel free to drop a call jus to say hi, cos people(this goes out to everyone) getting a call from an old friend, or jus an acquaintance, really has a way of breaking the monotony life so often has to offer.

Zahra, you are living proof, that if you fall, you should always get up and get back on your feet. Something which you should really be proud of!!!

I think it’s only fair to welcome a new year, by remembering the last one!

So in memory of all that has happened, I thought of all the things that have happened in 2008. These things happened to me, and some also to the rest of the world!

I want to start by saying 2008 will never be forgotten, because I was part of History! I was there when a black man, born in a country where he could not sit on some buses. Cloud not walk on some roads, could not drive on roads, could not eat in some restaurants’ no matter how rich he was, rised up to become the President of the United States of America!

In fact, it has been quite an eventful year. There were the Olympics in Asia for the first time in history.

There was the worst financial crisis since the 1930’s

But most unfortunately, the year ended on a grim note, reminding all of us, that terrorism is still very much alive, with the shootout at the TAJ in India.

On a more lighter note, 2008 brought us the Iphone and the Mac book Air!!

F1 took place in Singapore for the first time with the first ever NIGHT race!

i was sitting in the MRT after a long day of work, and i was remembering some people, people who unfortunately have left my life in too much of a hurry... and i tell myself, gosh... seems like every year or so something like this happens... and i had promised myself not to let life take me downhill ever since the day i joined poly... so what went wrong?

you see the thing is, sometimes when you go through hardship, it makes you a stronger person. and the thing i appreciate the most about losing someone is that you never actually really sit down to think what that person was to you, or how much worth that person is until you have actually lost them...

so in turn, you have the choice of two roads. you either protect your self from getting hurt and never become close to anyone else or .... in my case ... u realize what life is all about

remember earlier on, i said i will not let life take me downhill... so started thinking.. thinking of all the people that have had it hard in life. and i realized that people who i think or should i say.. i know god loves, well, they have had really thought lives. and even people i know personally, take my grandfather in india, he is a person whom anyone would agree is going to the 7th heaven, yet, his life is challenging at the ripe age of almost 75 years....

so i guess, i will thank Allah for the hard times in life, for it hopefully makes me a better person for myself, and for those around me. Ameen

A lot of people have been asking me about the HTC Touch HD. So here are some notes for those who are planning to buy it!

3.8-inch wide, WVGA (480 X 800 pixel) display offering a cinema experience on the go (WHICH IS A BIGGER SCREEN COMPARED TO IPHONE WHICH IS 3.5INCH)

· Vibrant TouchFLO^TM 3D user interface, responding perfectly to your finger gestures when scrolling through contacts, browsing the web, and launching media (what it means is that there is very little drag when you are touching things on the screen. However, keep in mind that this is a HD phone, which means that a lot of its very little RAM will be used to provide you with quality display, and if you start downloading programmes onto the phone, it will only be a matter of time before it starts hanging) unfortunately, you will face the same problem in the iphone.

· Surf and download at broadband speed with HSDPA internet connectivity (great for STARHUB customers who use who signup for SurfLite. And an even better idea is to use Bluetooth to link it up to your laptop to have internet wherever u are for free!!)

· Google Maps enhanced by the wide screen viewing platform (good for ppl who get lost all the time, and for new places you are visiting. other then that it’s a big phone memory gulper!)

· 5 megapixel camera for quality stills and video (if you are looking for a phone with a good camera, this is not the phone for you. Remember folks! A camera with high megapixels does not ensure good pictures if the lens is lousy!! Thus I recommended SonyEricsson CyberShot for those who are looking for good camera’s in ur phones)

· 3.5 mm audio jack (I like this feature! it gives you the ability to use your favourite ear piece without any extensions! This is one feature SonyEricsson handphones do not offer!)

· Overall I like the mat finish the phone has to offer, and its style is in its simple yet beautiful design. I give it (4.7/5)

Last day of school for 2008

Well, it has been an interesting year. many things have happened. Some faithful, some not so faithful … but the last day feels rather gloomy

There are only 8 people in my class… talk about class spirit! Sucks man…

To start off with, iv been having my passport problem on my mind for weeks! My school is pressing me for the passport, and the Singapore Immigration Authority is taking forever to make my passport!

And if that’s not enough, im falling sick … with a bad stomach ach … and a fever coming up … and I have no idea how im going to make it through the day, especially Masjid …

On another note, Im starting to believe in energy balance, Spiritual energy, by spiritual I do not mean religious. I mean something different. And for some reason I feel it the most on Fridays.

For as long as I can remember, my Fridays have been either VERY happy or kinda gloomy

I don’t really know how to explain it, but when ever something bad happens in my life, I met someone, a complete stranger, and am able to jus relax. I know it sounds kinda dumb, but yea.

I thank Allah for one thing, and that’s when ever I need a friend to talk to, like magic, someone, a total complete stranger will appear from no where! It’s like there really is someone looking out for me!

But what im trying to say is the balance, karma maybe, if you are there for others in their time of need, chances are, Allah will send someone for you.

So to everyone who is reading this, be there for your friends when they need you, or jus be there for the stranger who you think needs help, and I am sure, as long as you try your best (even if you screw up while helping, like what I do lol) good karma will come your way..

Today I met a man who has made himself from nothing. No special formulas, no special thinking, no special financial help… nothing … jus his will to help his mom in her shop, because he hated school and thought he would be better at helping her out.

Here is a man who is a Singapore born, O level English and Chinese fail, multi millionaire who when asked what made him capable of achieving such great heights, he said “I guess the only thing iv learnt is how to be strong from when I went to NS, and my uncle who said ‘its better to try and not get the money then to look at it and wonder how it feels to have it’” this person is non other then owner of Charles & Keith. 150 stores in 5 countries and millions of dollars in revenue, and not even with a good O level cert!! People it time for us to start thinking out of the box!!!

Every time I met people like him, I ask myself, what am I doing? The worlds 5 richest men are all collage drop outs! So obviously the guaranteed way of getting rich in not through a good education! Maybe it will help, but it’s definitely not the answer or THE ONLY WAY!

These days as I sit in class and I think a stone would be more productive then me. This only happens 2 days of the week though.

The first day is PHP, which is my java/web application development module…. IT’S A KILLER!! Codes, codes AND MORE CODES!!!!! its getting sucky, and im losing the respect of my peers and facilitators cos im so bad at it!

Next is JAVA. Pure, Java. Ask any student in RP, and they will tell u JAVA is the most hated subject in the universe. It’s so hated that in my entire level of 400 students there are only 5 people who are truly good at PHP and JAVA.

And now, for the GRAND motivation killer, along with 40% - 50% of my class, for the first time in history of my life of RP … I got an E for my test … sigh …

I don’t think this weekend is gonna be any fun either … working as usual …

Is IT my future?!?! I donno. Give me networking and computer stuff, I rock. Give me java, I suck!

Feel like taking a 101% break from everything in life at the moment. Jus sit at home for 3-4 days… and stone … iv not done that in a long long time …

Let me start this post by wishing MARYAM and ZAHRA A HAPPY 18^th BIRTHDAY!!! You guys have been my BFF since forever haha. Cheers to many more years of fun times together!

Let me take this opportunity to introduce new friends, and of course remember the great ones I already have!

First up, LAMAQ! This guys, I, and the rest of the world would not have imagined in a million years would turn out to be good friends. He is the opposite of me in everyway lol. But it’s exactly that which makes it so fun hanging out with him. IV learned a lot from him!

Next up is Ruqaiyah! Also got to know her this year. iv gotta thank Zahra for that! She is a great person to talk to! Shy in her own way, as friends I think we have grown a lot. Constantly giving each other advice on how to change for the better haha. She is one of the people I look forward sharing with how my day goes! Although sometimes I realise im talking to a BRICK WALL!!! Lol

Next is none other then Ella! Ladies and gentlemen, I can say she is the most talented of all my friends I have. She plays the piano exceptionally well, and takes even better photographs. I always look forward to spending time with her while she plays the piano in the library. She makes breaks something I look forward too.

Next is someone very interesting and bubbly, which is none other then Avylin! Someone whom Iv just met fairly recently, I also enjoy her company, our plans of doing serious work have been ending up with hours of cracking all kinds of jokes. Lol, the funniest girl I know by far!

Alifiya! Iv come to know her well this year, and I have to thank her for introducing me to Ella and Avylin. Alifiya is an open girl, in the sense she is open to new ideas and new ways of doing things, so its fun hanging out with her, taking pictures, having brunch and jus chilling.

Now this person is someone who is unique in his own way. And I also got to know him well during ramzan, as we tried our best to pray namaz in school everyday. He is none other then Nooruddin. Thanks for all the motivation; I don’t think I could have done it alone.

MANSOOR!!! This guy is smack in the middle of my list lol. He is the only person I have met in my whole life who LOVES the army! Lol. We have had fun time watching movies and hanging out! I also enjoy his random thoughts, cos I too am a SUPER random person when it comes to thoughts. Im sure he is gonna grow up to be a member of PAP/PARLIAMENT. You have my vote and support Mansoor!

Now I shall talk a little about my older friends.

Let’s start with aqeel! We get close every ramzan haha, cos that’s the time we get to met each other often in Masjid. I must admit, he is one of the reasons I look forward going to Masjid. Aqeel is one of my childhood buddies, and im sure we will be friends forever.

This person is the my business, philosophy, fishing, golf, move watching, story telling, chicken eating, overnight spending and car loving buddy of mine !!! Who else other then MOHAMMED!!! We don’t meet often, but when we do, it sure to be loads of fun, even if we do nothing! Lol cheers to all the fun times we have had together Mohammed!

Next is one of the most unique girls I know. Simply because I know that if you search the world over, you would not find another Maryam! She is a very positive, fun loving person! And I enjoy her company to the max because she is the only girl whom I can not only share my religious views with but she has HER OWN TOO!!!! Trust me, very rare to find! Plus she is super fun to hangout with.

This girl is very special to me, because she is more then a bf, more then a bff, she is someone I treat as a sister. And I think all of you know who she is. She is someone I look forward to going home with everyday. Someone who brightens my day with her smile. Someone who I feel like hugging every time I meet her (but she hates hugs lol) someone who I have grown very close to over the past year. We have been through countless things together! She is none other then Zahra! May we be friends forever.

Now, last but not least, is the most important person in my life. I celebrated six years of friendship with her this year. And I know that if everything in my life comes tumbling down and even If I loose every friend I have. There is one person who will always stand by my side and be there for me. She is thoughtful and cares for me like no other friend. She is also a talented pianist, motivates me to be a better person in life. Guides me in taking the correct path from time to time when I cannot choose for myself and is a very understanding person. She is my best friend Nettie. May Allah never part us.

HAD THE MOST AMAZING SANDWHICH, CHICKEN MARANARA! I have never tried anything like it in my life! People, if you go out side to get these kinds of sandwiches, u would easily end up paying $20. It only cost me $4. Every1 in my class wanted a bite haha.

These days life has changed a lot. People I hang out with, Idea’s on living life and even the way things have always been. It’s a classic case of new and old clashing.

Chivalry, use to be the dreams of men! To be chivalries, was to be worthy of being a knight. And it truly was! because women use to respect it, and it had great value.

Over the past few years, I have read many articles saying that chivalry was either dead or dying. And I refused to believe it. But unfortunately, these days im coming to a faithful conclusion that it is very true.

The women of the 21st century, according to “Lexeins” magazine (a male magazine) feel that women think they are denied power and authority, which has always been something that men has controlled from the beginning of mankind. Therefore they are rebelling

And thus they see any form of chivalry as we men looking at women as the weaker sex. This is where most power hungry women are wrong! Men do not treat you nicely because you are the weaker SEX!!!! It’s because we admire what you do, who you are, and who you are going to be. For we men, can never fill the role of a mother or a wife.

But in the 21st century, a woman wants to be treated equal to men, wants to be seen equal as men, and wants to be heard on the same stage as men. And therefore, because of the lack of understanding, chivalry has gone down the drain.

Hi guys, I was reading a speech given at NTU during their graduation ceremony. And let me tell u, it is one hell of a speech ! but there is this one part that really came across to me. and It has changed my idea of love. And because I have been thought that all good things should be shared in this world, I want to share with you a paragraph from it. (some of you might have received an email from me, this is the last paragraph) – if u want the full speech, do ask me.

I didn't say 'be loved'. That requires too much compromise. If one changes one's looks, personality and values, one can be loved by anyone. Rather, I exhort you to love another human being. It may seem odd for me to tell you this. You may expect it to happen naturally, without deliberation.

That is false. Modern society is anti-love. We've taken a microscope to everyone to bring out their flaws and shortcomings. It far easier to find a reason not to love someone, than otherwise. Rejection requires only one reason. Love requires complete acceptance. It is hard work - the only kind
of work that I find palatable.

Loving someone has great benefits. There is admiration, learning, attraction and something which, for the want of a better word, we call happiness. In loving someone, we become inspired to better ourselves in every way. We learn the truth worthlessness of material things. We celebrate being human. Loving is good for the soul.

Loving someone is therefore very important, and it is also important to choose the right person. Despite popular culture, love doesn't happen by
chance, at first sight, across a crowded dance floor. It grows slowly, sinking roots first before branching and blossoming. It is not a silly weed, but a mighty tree that weathers every storm.

You will find, that when you have someone to love, that the face is less important than the brain, and the body is less important than the heart. You will also find that it is no great tragedy if your love is not reciprocated. You are not doing it to be loved back. Its value is to inspire you.

A long night

I woke up in the morning at 5.30am. Reason being a friend of mine, Paro (who is studying in India right now), was sending me super long messages in my dreams, and something she said suddenly woke me up. I think I know why that happened in my dream, cos I unconsciously was aware that if she was here in Singapore, I would have been talking to her last night.

When I awoke, and realised the time, I recalled the last time I use to wake up this early on a daily basis was back in secondary school. And then as I moved from my room to the hall in the darkness, only dimly lit by light from the moon, an old familiar smell came about. It was the smell of the night slowly giving way to light of the morning. It was the smell of the trees waking up. And in that moment, I remembered my younger 12 year old self. My mom waking me up in the morning, turning on the heater for me, drying my hair after my shower, preparing breakfast and lastly sending me off to school with a stern warning that she did not want a teacher to be calling up saying I was day dreaming in class. Haha.

I was a naughty rascal I tell u! Always getting complains from the teachers. And that would result in spanking from my parents, but I know they only did that because they loved me, and wanted me to grow up to be a successful person.

But as I wake up today, im reminded of how age changes many things in our lives. I was waking up by myself, doing everything by myself. Life had changed. The first thought in the morning was not on to have the best Pokémon or tamiya car. People had changed, friends had changed, and entire environments had changed. And there was nothing I had left from those days, except the fond memories and maybe some contacts.

Some day, many of you reading this post, and even I will hopefully become a father, a mother. And once again, everything will change. So for now, as everyday goes by, I hope to live it with a smile, and may we all look back, and remember fond memories of our lives.

I was watching Desperate Housewife, and Gabriel, Eva longoria was going ON with her new boyfriend/future husband who is the senator of the state. Now everyone knows senators are rich, and this guy was no exception, further more he took care of Gabriel very well. Bought her everything she wanted, was thoughtful, and spent time with her.

Now, Gabriel spilled some wine over on a guy, so she went to help him wipe off the stain, in doing so, she was showing off some MAJOUR cleavage. Now, her X-husband reacted by holding the glass in his hand so tight that it broke, and the senator started vigorously checking the stocks on his blackberry! Lol

But that’s not why im writing this! What happened next was very interesting. And from my point of view, it PROVES that women cannot be understood, and well, MEN out there, show your lust for the women you like, cos it WILL attract them!

Gabriel brought her X-husband to an empty room, and jumped on him, kissing him and what not. He was very surprised, and asked her ‘are you not together with the senator?’ and Gabriel said ‘I need a man who can show how strongly he wants me’ let me remind you, she is thinking of the fact that he broke a glass because of her, and she FORGOT everything the senator had done for her. She did not have a penny left, and he saved her, but she forgot everything in one second when another man showed his eager lust for her! Well guys, let this be a lesson, don’t ever invest too much in one girl! cos iv seen this happen in real life too! Lol

BUT invest in them, after time tells you she is the one! From my point of view, if a guy tries to woo a girl by giving her everything he has got in the beginning, then he has nothing left to offer later! So be wise guys …

It’s been a while, about a month since I started reading a book, and for some reason it’s always a sad feeling when I come towards the end of a book. In the last month or so, most of my journeys to school and back were entertained by DECEPTION POINT, a book by Dan Brown, who is well know for his book titled “The Da Vinci Code”.

I learnt a few things in this book. The most significant thing being that the way information is presented can convince the viewer if it is real or fake.

The second thing is that love will come your way when u least expect it. No matter how many barriers you place in your heart, when that person comes along everything you told yourself will simply melt away. So why worry … enjoy life knowing that when the right person comes, what’s meant to be will be!

As I come to end for this book. I look forward reading many other books lined up for me. Which include “A thousand splendid suns” a second book from the author of “the kite runner” a book which made my feeling run wild in every direction! Prior to the reading “the kite runner” I never knew books could truly take you to another world.

You see guys, most people stop dreaming when they wake up, for me it is slightly different. I continue dreaming after I wake up. I continue dreaming about dreams that never ended. And sometimes these dreams are the best, because I can choose how they end.

I dreamt about you and me, me and you. Taking a drive we weren’t suppose to. Going to place I had promised you. An adventure, some might say. full of fun, I will say.

Have you ever cherished, or felt so good, by simply remembering memories with someone?

I end this post, by remembering a friend’s blog. In her blog, she mentions that you only realise happiness because it is something different, and your life is usually full of sadness. I would say, that my dreams made me see, that how full of happiness our lives are, but we will only realise it when we take a moment to pause and appreciate it.

You can never predict the FUTURE!!

I decided to get out of the class because I was groggy and freezing. So as I headed down the lawn, and down the escalator. Checked if alifiya was at the piano. Unfortunately she wasn’t, so headed back to class.

On the way, I passed the gaming room, and realised that there were some staff inside with puzzled faces, and there was a newly opened Nintendo Wii box on the table, with games, remotes and stuff. In my mind, I was like “finally!!!!!! A new game console!!” so I went in, and asked what are the games available. They replied saying “boy, do you know how to use this”

I said “sure, simple stuff”

Now this is the funny part, they should paste a sticker saying “adults stay away from game” because guess what they were doing to reset the game ?!?!?

THEY WERE TURNING THE TV ON AND OFF! I controlled my laughter and said, miss, the TV does not affect the game, you gotta press the reset button on the console haha.

And before you know it, I was the first RP student to play the Wii in the game room sweating it out in a game of virtual tennis with Roger Federer. Let me tell u something, once I started playing, every1 moved back 10 steps, cos I was flying from end of the room to the other! THE GAME IS ADDICTIVE I TELL YOU!

Here come the best part, as the ball came, I moved back and swung the remote to take a sharp angle shot, in doing soo, I smashed the remote against the wall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lucky for me, the staff had jus placed a protective cover on the remote! Haha

Now, I gotta spend the rest of the day with a sprained arm hoping I don’t get thirsty lol.

The last twelve hours will be something I will not forget in a long time. I dedicate this post to everyone who helped me and gave me their support from the very beginning till the end.

It had been a great day with great friends, and I was looking forward to going home.
I try to note down the bus timings on my phone, this way I would know when the buses would come. As I had taken bus 168, I realised that the time difference between alighting 168 and boarding 39 would be very short. That’s why I grabbed what ever I had and got off the bus as soon as possible.

Soon bus 39 came, and I boarded the bus. As the bus moved off, I realised I was not caring my laptop. I immediately told the bus driver to stop the bus; I thought I had left the laptop on the bench at the bus stop. (I want to thank the bus driver who was understanding, and stopped the bus in the middle of the road, and waited until I returned to the bus.)

I ran to the bus stop, but there was nothing there. I now started to panic. I ran back to the bus, and told it to go off.

For a second I could not think when was the last time I was holding onto the laptop, so I called Zahra, she said she remembered me caring it to the bus interchange (thank you Zahra, for your support through out the whole thing) I then realised that I had placed it on the seat next to me, so I flagged a taxi.

When I got into the taxi, the driver immediately realised my panic stricken face. I could barely talk in a proper sentence. I told him that I had left the laptop in the bus, and we had to chase the bus. (Although I do not know his name, I want to thank the taxi driver for his understanding and for the fact that he broke the law and risked getting fine by driving over 100km/h on a very busy highway)

After we entered Tampines, neither the taxi driver nor did I know the route of the bus. We tried following the bus stops but were soon lost. I told him to go to Tampines interchange, because that is where I thought bus 168 ended (it was about this time Mohammed called, I want to thank Mohammed for helping me by giving me the tasbis to do if you loose something. Also for the continues support throughout the whole thing)

I emptied my wallet upside down, did not care how much money was there. The taxi driver was understanding, he told me not to worry if the amount was short.
I ran like I never ran before to the bus interchange. I chased a bus I though was 168, but it turned out to be 28. I then went to the office and they told me that 168 ended at Bedok, not Tampanise.

Now, I ran to the main road. In the frustration I threw the tennis racket i was holding into the dustbin, blaming it for making me leave my laptop behind.

My body was not able to take all this sudden running. I felt like falling as I ran. I chased a cab until the main road, but it did not stop. Soon another cab came, and I followed the bus route instructions the bus station had given me on the route of 168.

The whole route, there was no 168 bus. Soon I reached Bedok interchange; luckily I had emergency money in my wallet to pay for the cab.

While in the cab, I started to think, what if I was wrong, did I leave the laptop in bus 39?

I got of the cab, and ran to the parked 168 bus in the middle of the interchange. But there was nothing in the bus.

I went to the bus control station, and told them what had happened (at about this time, my mom called, I could not hold back the tears. She told me not to worry. Sometimes the words of your mother are like nothing else in the world, thank you mom.) after I hanged up the phone, mom told Tasneem’s masi what had happened, and she helped me call the bus interchange to ask if they had found the laptop (she is a very selfless person, and I want to thank her for all the help she gave me yesterday) my mom called my masi, who’s words have the ability to lighten the weight on my shoulders (im so grateful to have you as my masi, thanks for being there, and for the tasbi (sometimes you need to know someone who is closer then Allah then you are))

The person in charge told a security guard to help me check every 168 bus (I want to thank the security guard and the station master)
After the security guard left, I went into buses myself, opening the door using the emergency button on the side.

By now I had almost given up, it had been around 2-3 hours since I started my search. My dad called to tell me he was coming down, I told him it was not necessary(thanks dad).
I made my way to the bedok MRT satiation, each step was agonizingly hard to take. Ruqaiyah called, she found out what had happened through Zahra(thanks ruqaiyah for the concern and the dua, sometimes a call from close friends does make things better) I could not talk much, could not really think what to say. I just needed to be alone after all that.

When I reached Pasir Ris, I went to the bus control station to ask if they had it, but they were closed.

When I went to the bus 3 bus stop, I was so frustrated, I took the painting I had in my bag and trashed it in the rubbish bin.

Went home, could hardly eat. Parents asked what exactly happened. They were very understanding.

Made a police report online. They sent me an email stating my case number.

The next day.

I met Carol, one of my MEIG members at the bus stop; I told her what had happened, because it was evident that I was down.

When we boarded the 168 bus, I asked the bus driver if he had seen a laptop, he said no, but he can give me the phone number of the control station.
I called the station there and then, but they did not have it.
I knew I still needed a computer so I called Ester to see if she was early in school, she was not, but she called her friend to help me borrow a computer (thanks Ester and friend)

When we reached the woodlands interchange, Carol offered to follow me to the control station to help me ask if they had it (thanks Carol, you’re a really nice friend, and im sure you will do great in RP) I told her it was ok, and she should go to school, but she replied saying ‘I know how you feel’ and followed me.

The control station simply said we are not in charge of SBS. What a disappointment.
I reached school and told my facilitator what had happened, she is also my PP advisor. She gave me an extra 2 weeks to redo the work, and said just take this as a lesson in life. She was indeed very kind(I know I have not always supported your way of teaching, but thank you so much for being understanding) she even helped me to find the person to email the whole school if they had seen the laptop.

Then at about 9am, my phone rang, the caller ID showed withheld. I thought it was the police, as the email by the police said that someone would contact me in 48 hours time.

When I picked up the phone, a lady said “is this shakir hozefa?”
“Yes”
“Someone has just dropped of your laptop at the One Stop Centre, please come down to collect it”
I ran out of the class, did not think about anything and jus ran to the OSC, tears of joy ran down myface.
At first I thought it must be a mistake, I just could not comprehend what had happened.
When I reached there, an officer passed me the black pouch with the laptop in it.
I asked who returned it.
And he replied
“A member of the public, you’re really lucky”
“Thank you, no name? No number?”
“No, he just came and dropped it off”

I have learnt a few things. Firstly, Allah can take away anything from you in a blink of an eye. And secondly, he had surrounded me with some of the nicest people in the world. For that I am very grateful to him

What’s wrong with you people!!

Singaporeans!!!

What the hell is your problem!!

Today, I saw a police officer in uniform smoking at the bus stop! (It is against the law, and the fine is $500) if you commit the offence in uniform, you will have to face two courts and the sentence will be harsh!

Did anyone do anything? No!

What did I do? I told him that it is against the law!

What did he do? He looked away!

Nobody voiced out! Nobody called the police!! What the hell is everyone so afraid of?!?!

Where is your pride for your country?! Where is your voice for what wrong is being done?!

I’m not jus angry at this, im angry at the fact that Singaporeans are all talk and no action, people say lets donate and let’s stop crime, but there is not even a hand few who even care.

Everything, just leave it to the police! What’s the point of celebrating total defence!! The nation has failed to cultivate a society that cares about it’s self. Everyone wants to just find the next T.T Durai and put him in jail, nobody wants to go and help the patients in need.

DO SOMETHING!!! DON’T JUST TALK!!!
SPEAK UP WHEN YOU SEE WRONG!!!
God has given you a brain a voice and hands!! DO SOMETHING WITH IT, DON’T BE SELF CENTERED.

I went to get some breakfast from the new chicken rice stall at W1 (rating from me 3.5/10) and on the way back many people squeezed into a life. In the lift there were a bunch of friends, with one sticking our because of his ang mo accent, he was a mix I think. Also there were facilitators and what not.

After a few laughs, this guy he said aloud “my father told me, life is like anal sex, at first, in the beginning it hurts like hell, but after some time you get use to it, and enjoy it !”

The students in the lift laughed their asses off, while the facilitators made a face saying “what the hell is wrong with this child”

Well that’s what I like about ang mo’s because they simply have the balls to do and say things that we Asians don’t! They don’t mind making fun of themselves either, as long as they are having fun!

I remember once my mom told me to enjoy my childhood, she said ‘when you grow up, life gets complicated, enjoy life now while your young’ this was back in sec 1 or 2.

And what she said was very true. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but it seems that not a day goes by that I am worry free. Everyday, there is something on my mind. Miss the good old days …

Recently when my granddad was in Singapore, he asked my dad, brother and I “say you had nothing in life, no money, no wife, no kids, nothing! And because of all your prayer, Allah said he would grant you one wish, what would it be?”

My bro and I came up with all kinds of things, but my dad just said one word “happiness”.

My granddad said the answer was wrong, and the answer is “I want to see 7 generations grow up with a silver spoon”

Yes, it does solve all your problems, but now that I think of it, I think my dad’s answer was what I would say. Even if you have everything in the world and you don’t have happiness it’s useless.

To me, happiness is finding who you are, where is your place in this world, and being very happy with it, have no doubts, having no regrets and enjoying every moment of life.

I went for this talk where they said quotes on how to live a more happy life, and the one which caught most of my attention was “accept that everything in life comes to an end”

I guess what I am trying to say is that, although for most of us change in our life is a sign of going out of our comfort zone. If we bear with this change it will only result in a better life, as the saying goes “there is a rainbow after every storm”

What happens when servers go down? RP students go on a gaming spree !!! lol

It was a sight to see, every in class was playing games during class time, and the faci could not say a thing!!! why ? cos all the work SIT students do, runs on a database server, and the server had just crashed.

Faci’s were coming into my class, because my ang mo faci is spearheading the entire database server, all he said was, “don’t say anything, I know” FIRST TIME SEEING ANGMO FACI STRESSED!!! Haha.

UPDATE: module chair just came into class, after talking to the faci outside, he came in and apologised and said all the students have to shut down their notebooks, or else it will overload the server again, and the network cannot handle so many people. Network shutdown.

This kinda reminds me of what Mohammed was saying the other day. “If the network is down, u guys in RP are like screwed” just goes to show how vulnerable our lives are as we move into a future that is so dependent on the internet and technology for our everyday lives.

Gratifying

There was Masjid on Sunday. And it was really tiring cos I had hardly slept the previous night. Food was good!!!!! haha

Now, most of you who know me, know that I will be saying all kinds of stuff all the time. Just general knowledge stuff. And some friends of mine will take great effort to label me according to what I’m saying. All kinds of crap professions like “doctor, engineer, IT specialist... and so on” lol.

So how was Sunday different? Well, after wrapping up everything in the basement and bringing the food up, I saw my two cousins Maria and Maryam. I saw Maria looking at a bright star in the sky. So, I told her “do you know that the light from that star you are looking at was shining 4 and half years ago!”

She naturally asked “What do you mean?”

And I said “when a star shines, it takes 4 and a half years for the light of that star to reach the earth, so in other words, you are looking at a light that is 4 and a half years old.”

Maria understood immediately what I said and was amazed, while Maryam said “Bhai, I don’t understand what are you saying, can you repeat.”

So I gave her a example “Can you see that light bulb, that light you are seeing takes around 1/1000000(1 second divide by 1 million) of a second to reach your eyes and then you can see it, so the star is so far away that it takes the light 4 and a half years to reach your eyes”

She too was now excited, lol.

Then as we walked to the car park, Maryam said “Can I ask you another question?”

“Yea, sure”

“What are stars?”

“They are suns which are very far away”

She became very blur lol, and said “S O N or S U N”

Laughing, I said “S U N” lol

“Bhai they are small suns?”

At this point in time I knew it would be very difficult to explain to her why the stars are so small if they are the same size as our sun.

So I said “Yes, they are small suns.”

She went to her car, I went to mine. As I sat in the car, she got off her car, ran to me and said “Bhai thank you for telling me everything.”

“You’re most welcome”

That was the most gratifying feeling I have ever got of sharing my knowledge with someone. So I guess it’s not bad after all sharing what I know with people, it’s just a matter who I tell it to.

Saturday night, was a night to remember!!!!!!!!! I jus realised that most of HAPPENING nights in my life are Saturday nights. Got a shock of my life, but I anticipated it. Cld not sleep like until 3am, i guess it was 50% shock and 50% too much energy.

Was playing old songs reminiscing the night away. Friends, old times, birthdays, school, laughter lol, night to remember man!
Slept for like 3 hours, jumped out of bed, had a super long bath, decided to go to NLB at city hall.

Went for lunch at raffles, made friends with this guy who is the editor of Myanmar English paper.

Cracked my brains on java codes on the way to marine parade.

Now at the library at marine parade with friends!

Thoughts

For the past 3 mornings, I have been waking up and thinking of this one guy (mind you, I’m not gay). On the first day I just laughed and thought it was strange to be thinking of his actions early in the morning. On the second day, I thought I was jealous of him, but that did not make much sense. On the third day (today) I realised why my unconscious mind is constantly bothered about this guy.

To start off, let me tell you what kind of guy he is. He is the kind of guy that we think tries too hard. He is the kind of guy who is at the centre of jokes. He is the kind of guy people mock. He is the guy, other guys (esp. me in this case) say will never get that girl. He is the kind of guy who does things you always thought of doing but just thought it was too silly. He is the kind of guy who tries his luck with everything!

Now what do 99.9% of people say about this guy? He is making a fool of himself. And trust me, until now; I was part of that 99.9% of people.

Now let me give you a thought that goes through many of your minds, for most people often, for some not so often. “Not again!” what do I mean? Do you wake up in the morning and tell yourself before you go into the shower, not another Monday!!! Not another Tuesday! Not another assignment! NOT ANOTHER BORING, MEANINGLESS DAY!!!

Now back to this guy. Would anyone of you reading this blog want to be the BUTT of all jokes?! No right. But what if, in return of being the butt of all jokes, u will get to do exceptionally well in 2 of the 3 things you are doing in life right now. But there is a catch, you have to wait, you have to be patient and you have to put in effort while others will be relaxing.

You see guys, while I was laughing at this guy. He was the one person who actually had PASSION, DRIVE, AND GUTS to pursue the things he wanted in life. And I did not realise this until waking up 3 mornings thinking of what he is doing!

Why am I thinking of this? Because his previous “successes” did not mean much to me, but his recent near luck is mind boggling! I never thought he would get it in a million years; forget a million years, in a billion lifetimes!

So I ask myself, he did not lose money every time people laughed when he tried to do things(you know what I mean) instead, he became closer to his goals and today he is ALMOST getting everything he wants in life.

Note to self; never laugh at people who dare to do what I do not dare to do.
Note to self, live life, because you have two choices, either risk it all, and become someone. Or do nothing, and be nobody.
